Belle kicked off its Winter Meetings this morning with the traditional Breakfast Banquet welcoming new owners.
Owners, media, agents, fans, groupies and other hangers-on gathered in the Grand Ballroom of Harrah's Hotel and Casino in beautiful downtown Shreveport, LA (hometown of BOTH Joey Belle AND your illustrious commish) for champagne and river-cat tacos.
The WS champ Jackson Holes' GM mdukes13 introduced this season's new skippers.
tjconnatser moves in at the helm of the new NL West Fresno Grizzlies (Tacoma TIE Fighters during Seasons 10-13). tj has 27 HBD seaons under his belt, including 11 playoff appearances and a stint as commish of Double Mendoza. The Grizzlies have a rich cache of young talent...can theyput it together and make a run in their first year in Fresno?
riverpirate takes over perhaps the most storied franchise in Belle history, the 4-time WS champion Charleston Apologists - now moved west to Memphis and renamed the Mudcats. riverpirate will need all the experience gained in his 55 seasons to chart a new course for the aging but still-talented 'cats...will they wheel and deal to fill holes and make another run?
Winter Meeting activities continue today with coach retention and decisions about offering arbitration.
